Sweet Poison

with No Comments

Sugar. We all know that we should not consume too much of it. But why? Most of us know that sugar is full of empty calories, which leads to weight gain. What many of us don’t know is the slew of other health problems that are caused in large by our sugary indulgences. In addition to adding sneaky inches to your waistline, sugar depresses your immune system, damages your liver, and contributes to diabetes, heart disease and cancer, just to name a few of sugar’s deadly side effects.  Worst of all, sugar is an addictive substance. It causes a massive release of dopamine in the reward center of your brain, which is the same reaction that is experienced in those with drug addictions.

Join us for our NO SWEETS WEEK October 27-30

You will be doing yourself a favour by avoiding that deadly substance, and sign up with Katie to win a PRIZE!

For that week, we will be cutting out sugar and all its sneaky synonym-sidekicks!  Avoid: evaporated cane juice, agave nectar, fruit juice concentrate, high fructose corn syrup, brown rice syrup, barley malt syrup, dextrose, maltose, glucose, fructose, caramel, molasses, and sucanat.

Stevia and birch xylitol are your friends! Other healthier sweeteners include coconut sugar, date sugar, and raw honey. Always read the ingredients on packaged foods!
